Team Profile:

Avonside Girls High School

Avonside Girls High have two teams in 2010:

The Year 13 dragon boat crew goes by the nickname "The Dragon Ladies".

The team is captained by Kate Sullivan who also competes as a surf lifesaver. The team is coached and trained By Andy Jones a long time teacher at the school and has Terry Coyle as their sweep from the "Give It a Go" Crew.

This team started as a development squad in Feb 2009 and has gone from strength to strength. They are Fierce rivals of the Marian and Christchurch Girls High teams and are looking to improve upon their 3rd place victory in the February ice breaker at Pegasus Lake. The crew also include several girls who paddle with adult crews including the Airways Paddlateers and Fei Long for training.

Team motto is "Pain is momentary but cowardice lasts a life time".

Avonside Girls High School Year 12 Dragon Boat Crew go by the nickname "The Dragon Hearts".

Dragon Hearts as captained by Jess MacLauchlan who also plays hockey for Canterbury. The team is coached and trained By Kirsten Field, a teacher at the school. Sweep for Dragon Hearts is Evan Roper.

This is their first year in the competition and already are a force to be reckoned with taking a 4th place in the A grade empress finals at the Icebreaker in February. They train hard and show total commitment to their sport.

Team motto is "Do it, Do it Right, Do it Right Now!"
