Europe

2009 World Champs - Racice, Prague (26-30 August 09)

IDBF have confirmed that next year’s World Dragon Boat Championship will be in Prague, not Poland. Shirley Boys were due to travel to Poznań, but Mike Haslam of IDBF explains that a scheduling clash with canoeing regatta means the event is now moved to the reserve location Racice, just outside Prague in the Czech Republic.

Czech DB Association will run the regatta on the purpose built course in Racice, 30 or 40km north of Prague, on the way to Dresden. In a departure from previous Worlds, it is likely that most of the 2000m competitions will take place on the river in Prague City centre, with the famous Charles Bridge as the top turning point. The remaining races will be held on the Racice Regatta course some 30 minutes drive from Prague.

Dates are August 2009

  • from 24th -26th: accreditation, training
  • 27th: opening ceremony plus 2,000m race in Prague
  • 28th: 1,000m races in Racice
  • 29th: 500m races in Racice
  • 30th: 200m races in Racice, then closing ceremony
