NZ Dragon Boat AssociationOur governing body, NZDBA, is undergoing something of a rebirth. Getting on boardAoraki is keen to use the lessons we have learnt in Canterbury to help the sport grow across the country. At the NZDBA Annual General Meeting on Saturday 21-June (hosted by Aoraki at Airways Corporation's rooms in Russley) we nominated several locals to sit on the national body, with the following elected [note, the board membership changes fairly frequently]:
We had hoped to take all the out-of-towners on a tour of our venues, but there were so many issues under discussion that had to wait till the Sunday. NZDBA was joined by a trans-Tasman representation; Kel Watt (President of AusDBF) and Melanie Cantwell (AusDBF Technical Director). Significant developments were proposed for creating Closer DragonBoat Relations across the ditch, as described here. On the Sunday, Noel took AusDBF and Dave Elliott to check out a site we are keen to use next season - Lake Hood near Ashburton. Mel and Kel were blown away by the quality of the venue! After dropping them at the Airport, Noel showed Dave around the new city venues (Kerr's and Owles) - he was equally impressed with these. NZDBA Website now onlineNZDBA Secretary, Dave Elliott launched the new website at the end of July 2008. This should help them keep us all informed of the direction of the sport here and abroad.
