Cheryl Gee, Sharyn Chalmers, Jillian Broadbent and Meri Gibson crossed the Tasman to compete in the inaugral Dragons Abreast fundraising regatta held on Darling Harbour, Sydney.
They paddled in a composite team with paddlers from four other Ozzie clubs. Their first training session was at dinner the night before the regatta (Yep you guessed it, no training at all) so that made coming home with the SILVER just that little bit sweeter, especially beating out the much favoured DA Gold Coast team (Missabittititti). Shows what can be done when you all paddle in the same direction.
They also won the prize for best dressed. The team is called "DA Ratatouille" (a mixed bag), as it is the year of the Rat, and are affectionately become known as the Ratties, hence the rat bandanas which were made by our fantastic coach/sweep and all round extraordinary person Hayley Coutts from DA Melbourne (DAM Busters).
Meri thoroughly recommends this regatta for anyone up for a good time at a fabulous venue. There were 52 teams competing of which the majority were corporates and community teams. Another great event organised by NSW DBA. Not to mention the considerable funds raised for BC... |
